Why do I need to hang flexible ducting?

Depending on the area of installation, flexible ducting can sometimes require hanging. The reason for this is to provide as little resistance for any airflow that travels through the duct. Ducting that is too long, or bends multiple times, has a reduced airflow efficiency.

Air travels at its most efficient in a straight line, so making sure your ducting is as straight as possible aids this.

Ducting should also be taut to ensure there is little to no sag, whether it is hanging or not. Sagging within flexible ducting makes bends and spaces that reduce airflow, and can accumulate dust.

Can I hang flexible ducting in any room?

In essence, flexible ducting has the potential to be hung across any room, but it doesn’t always have to. Having a consultation or installation from a HVAC technician will ensure that ducting is only hanging wherever it is absolutely necessary.

Can ducting that has been cut, also be hanged?

Yes, as long as the ducting has been secured properly, it should still be able to be hung if required, though this may vary depending on the method it was secured.

Ideally, the cut ends of a flexible duct, which are attached to a rigid connector, should be secured using quick release worm drive clips, or another form of secure clip. If the ducting has been attached incorrectly, it will either come apart once it is hung, or will sag directly from the point it is hanging by.
