Here at I-Sells, as the number 1 supplier of venting and ducting solutions in the UK, we endeavor to bring you the necessity of a properly ventilated home alongside all of the benefits that can be experienced. In this article we will be answering the question ‘Do ventilation fans cool?’
All of the solutions we offer are in an effort to disrupt the environment neccassary for mould to formulate, as mould can have serious health implications as well as spread easily if left unattanded.
Along side mould control, our venting and ducting solutions also aid in the removal of condensation, retention (and in some cases addition) of heat, and the removal of stale air in your home.
As we continue, let us explain a little bit about home ventilation systems and their benefits.
What is home ventilation?
Home ventilation systems are the most effective method of curing and preventing condensation dampness. Installed in thousands of dwellings each year, Home ventilation systems can be a more cost-effective and simple to install, whilst still meeting building regulations.
Essentially the concept is to introduce fresh, filtered air into the dwelling at a continuous rate, encouraging movement of air from inside to outside.
To achieve this, the unit is mounted in the loft space, drawing air through the filters and inputting it, at ceiling level, into the property. An integrated heater tempers airflow should the temperature in the loft space drop below a set point, ensuring ultimate comfort in the home.
The result of this airflow is a reduction in condensation and humidity, a key factor in preventing the cultivation of mould.
Here are some benefits of home ventilation system
- Cures condensation dampness – reduces the humidity in the air, curing condensation dampness preventing mould growth.
- Improved indoor air quality and healthy living environment- Indoor pollutants from cooking and cleaning, as well as outdoor pollutants including pollen and Radon gas, are eradicated from the home
- A Unique cost-effective solution
- Meets Regulations – Meets Part F & L of Building Regulations as a low-energy ventilation strategy
- Easy & simple installation – Typically installed in under one hour depending on the model you select
- Modern, sleek circular diffuser – Provides occupant acceptability
- Low maintenance
- Energy efficient – System goes into standby during warmer months when there is no evidence of condensation
- Clinically proven to help allergy and asthma sufferers
Do ventilation fans cool?
This is dependent on the ventilation system you choose, there are some that emit heat, and some that cool, and others that purely just extract air.
Ventilation helps to clear stale and humid air, or odours in the room it is set in, as a result aside from cooling, ventilation also helps to prevent mould from developing by not allowing the environment that cultivates mould to be in a room.
Can Ventilation remove humidity?
Yes. Humidity is a measurement of the amount of water vapour in the air. It is more apparent with warmer air, as it can hold more vapour within it. Humidity is the precursor to condensation, cold surfaces such as tiles, windows or ledges react with the humid air to create condensation, if left untreated this will then cause mould.
Mould can not only aggravate health issues but if left untreated, can weaken your immune system, making you at risk of becoming ill a lot more easily.
So does PIV reduce humidity? Yes, PIV can help to reduce humidity. However, as with any ventilation solution, a consistent and thorough ventilation routine will supplement the effectiveness of PIV solutions.
Extra mould prevention

If you want the best possible prevention from the dangers of mould, ventilation systems along with having a regular ventilating routine is the most secure option you take. Proper ventilation is as simple as:
- Opening a window and using an extractor fan during or after a hot bath/shower
- Creating an airflow by opening windows on different sides of the home for around 20 minutes a day
- Buying or making use of extractor fans within the home
- Opening a window or using an extractor in the kitchen whilst cooking hot meals
- (if living in a house) opening windows downstairs and upstairs, allowing the rising hot air to escape through upstairs windows, while cool, fresh air circulates in from the downstairs windows.
Track your humidity levels
Consider buying a Hygrometer. This device measures the levels of humidity in the air, which can indicate to you which rooms are creating the perfect environment for mould. This is a valuable maintenance and detection device that we offer.
Deal with it
If you find mould on your food, dispose of it and any other foods that may have been touching the moulded food, or open within the same area. If you find mould on any surfaces, clean it immediately with our anti-mould surface cleaner.
If mould reappears at a certain spot in your home, check to see if there is any leak or damage to the area that can be letting moisture in. If so, contact your landlord or trusted tradesman to fix the issue.
Browse our mould control options for the best possible solutions to dealing with mould.
Please note that these steps will not completely defend against mould if there are leakage issues in your home, but will certainly help to mitigate the growth of mould if done on a regular basis.

Nuaire Drimaster Eco Hall Control Diffuser Positive Input Ventilation Unit
The Nuaire Drimaster Eco Hall Control Diffuser Positive Input Ventilation Unit has the added benefit of having the system controls located in the contemporary ceiling diffuser. This unique feature bestows the homeowner with complete control of the unit, without having to enter the loft space.
Not only can settings be altered with the push of a button on the contemporary diffuser, but there is also a 7 segment display which notifies the user of the need for filter change and what setting the Drimaster is running on.
The DRIMASTER-ECO range provides whole home ventilation using the Positive Input Ventilation principle, which introduces fresh filtered air into the dwelling at a continuous rate, encouraging movement of air from inside to outside. Click here to view on our site.
Drimaster Eco Heat Positive Input Ventilation Unit With Integral 400W Heater By Nuaire
The Drimaster Eco Heat Positive Input Ventilation Unit incorporates all of the functions of our DRI-ECO-LINK-HC unit but with the benefit of an integral heating element, located between the flexible duct and ceiling diffuser.
This heating component will temper the air which is distributed through the property via the ceiling diffuser, thus ensuring a comfortable living environment. This pioneering design sees the low watt heater (400w) react efficiently and effectively, guaranteeing an economically friendly product.
A temperature sensor on the outside of the unit monitors and controls the heater output to maintain the set point. The set point ranges from 5° to 15° and can be adjusted from the ceiling diffuser. If the temperature at the heater outlet is above the set point, the heater will not activate. To browse more details, click here
Installing Positive Input Ventilation
Nuaire Drimaster units (positive input ventilation PIV) only have 1 vent. So installation is very fast. This is due to them not needing ducting as it only has 1 output vent. Someone who likes DIY can do this in a few hours.
Self-installation can be done with a handy guide by the manufacturer
If hiring someone, you will need an electrician to add power & sockets in the loft. If you already have power in loft, then the process will be straightforward.
Overall, hiring someone would be £200-£500 to install a Drimaster unit. Heat recovery options are more expensive to install simply because they need ducting and vents installed in every room or several rooms, several input and output vents. Due to it being ‘whole house’ ventilation.
