Every home should have fresh air, it should be free from mould and the causes of it, one way to give your home the best chance at being the best it can be, is through the use of a PIV system.
In this blog, we will answer the question ‘How does a PIV unit work?’
To prevent mould, fresh air should constantly be introduced into your dwelling daily, as it helps to regulate temperature and reduce condensation. Introducing fresh air can be as simple as having a ventilation routine, or installing extractors or PIV systems. Almost all of this is facilitated by ducting.
I-Sells is here to provide the answers you need whilst also supplying you with all the information you need to combat mould and have a well-ventilated home.
What is a PIV unit?
Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) ventilation systems are the most effective method of curing and preventing condensation dampness. Invented by Nuaire and installed in thousands of dwellings each year, PIV can be a more cost-effective and simple to install ventilation solution, whilst still meeting building regulations.
Is a PIV unit the same as an extractor?
No, A PIV unit is similar to an extractor, in the fact that they both extract indoor air. However, PIV systems replace that air with fresh air from outdoors at a continuous rate. The result is a home that always has fresh air, and is free from stale air and condensation.

The unit is mounted in the loft space of the building it is installed in, it extracts the air in the dwelling whilst simultaneously extracted air from outside. The outside air is then passed through the filters and inputting it, at ceiling level, into the property.
An integrated heater tempers airflow should the temperature in the loft space drop below a set point, ensuring ultimate comfort in the home.
The result of this airflow is a reduction in condensation and humidity, a key factor in preventing the cultivation of mould.
The benefits of a PIV system

What if I can’t get a PIV unit?

We are sensitive to the fact that all of our readers may not be able to get a PIV system just yet, so is there an alternative way to get the benefits of a PIV system? You’ll be happy to know there is. It’s as simple as opening your windows.
Opening your windows in your home so there is a passage of air travelling from one side of the house to the other (Upstairs too if your home has multiple levels) will allow any humid, stale air to leave your home, and be replaced with fresh air from outside.
Practicing this method on a daily basis is a basic ventilation routine, that being said, PIV systems do all this without the risk of making the home too cold, whereas doing this method with the windows will result in your home getting colder in a quicker fashion.
Where can I buy PIV units?

Drimaster Eco Heat Positive Input Ventilation Unit With Integral 400W Heater By Nuaire

A temperature sensor on the outside of the unit monitors and controls the heater output to maintain the set point. The set point ranges from 5° to 15° and can be adjusted from the ceiling diffuser. If the temperature at the heater outlet is above the set point, the heater will not activate. To browse more details, click here
