Here at I-Sells, as the number 1 supplier of venting and ducting solutions in the UK, we endeavour to bring you the necessity of a properly ventilated home alongside all of the benefits that can be experienced. In this article we will be answering the question ‘Will PIV stop mould?’
The team at I-sells recognise the discomfort, destruction and danger that can be caused by mould, which can and will spread if left unattended. The prevention of mould can be aided in a variety of ways. One of which being Positive Input Ventilation.
PIV
Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) ventilation systems are the most effective method of curing and preventing condensation dampness. Invented by Nuaire and installed in thousands of dwellings each year, PIV can be a more cost-effective and simple to install ventilation solution, whilst still meeting building regulations.
Essentially the concept is to introduce fresh, filtered air into the dwelling at a continuous rate, encouraging the movement of air from inside to outside.
To achieve this, the unit is mounted in the loft space, drawing air through the filters and inputting it, at ceiling level, into the property. An integrated heater tempers airflow should the temperature in the loft space drop below a set point, ensuring ultimate comfort in the home.
The result of this airflow is a reduction in condensation and humidity, a key factor in preventing the cultivation of mould. At I-Sells, one of the PIV units we provide is from the established creator Nuaire, and their product, the Drimaster.
Mould
Mould, otherwise known as damp, is a fungus that grows on wet surfaces. Mould comes in a variety of colours: Black, Green, Brown, Grey and White. It can be difficult to identify mould by colour as it can occur in many shades.
Mould reproduces from tiny spores. The spores float through the air and deposit on the surfaces. Under adequate temperature, moisture, and nutrient conditions, the spores can form new mould colonies.
condensation is not the only cause of mould, it can occur from leaks in the structure of a building too.
Mould can severely affect your immune and respiratory system, as the spores are easily breathable and not obvious to see through the human eye.
If you have found mould in your home, you need to assess if this is your landlord’s responsibility (for example it could be from a leaking roof that needs repairing). Or if the damp is caused by improper ventilation. To assess your options, click here.
So will PIV stop mould?
Will PIV stop mould?

Using a PIV system will help to prevent the environment necessary for mould to grow. However, it must be noted that if adequate removal of mould is not taken, or if there are no ventilation routines taking place in your dwelling, it is likely mould will still be present in your home, albeit at a smaller rate.
In regard to the removal of mould, we have many products that will destroy mould.
Mould prevention comes in the form of a ventilation routine. Here are some key steps you should be taking:
- Open the window during or after a shower or bath
- Open the windows for at least 20 minutes a day, downstairs and upstairs (Or in multiple rooms if you live in an apartment)
- Open the window when you are cooking
- Be sure to wipe away any condensation you find before or after opening your windows
- Having an extractor fan, or updating your old extractor fan and using it regularly will greatly reduce humidity

Drimaster Eco Heat Positive Input Ventilation Unit With Integral 400W Heater By Nuaire
The Drimaster Eco Heat Positive Input Ventilation Unit incorporates all of the functions of our DRI-ECO-LINK-HC unit but with the benefit of an integral heating element, located between the flexible duct and ceiling diffuser.
This heating component will temper the air which is distributed through the property via the ceiling diffuser, thus ensuring a comfortable living environment. This pioneering design sees the low watt heater (400w) react efficiently and effectively, guaranteeing an economically friendly product.
A temperature sensor on the outside of the unit monitors and controls the heater output to maintain the set point. The set point ranges from 5° to 15° and can be adjusted from the ceiling diffuser. If the temperature at the heater outlet is above the set point, the heater will not activate.
