Semi-rigid flexible ducting – aluminium.

Description
GALALI – Tecflex 500 is a pure aluminium duct of laminated construction allowing flexibility in both axial and lateral planes. Bends can be formed by hand, making it an ideal solution for final connections.
Construction
GALALI – Tecflex 500 is manufactured from a corrugated strip spirally wound to produce a tube with a double overlapped joint which is crimped by a unique patented process to ensure pressure tightness up to 2500 Pa. and prevent uncoiling in use. The corrugated depth is designed to combine maximum flexibility with resistance to physical damage under site conditions.
Flexibility
The extra-deep corrugations of GALALI – Tecflex 500 bring metal tubes into a new field of flexibility. All sizes from 75mm to 500mm can be formed by hand to a 1 2D radius – a feature only previously thought possible with fabric type flexible ducting. GALALI – Tecflex 500 can also be extended or compressed for installation between spigots located opposite each other.
GALALI – Tecflex 500 naturally retains its corrugation form and in doing so achieves maximum distance between supports without “sagging”. GALALI – Tecflex 500 retains its cross-section regardless of the state; it can be compressed, extended or formed into bends or offsets with no reduction in area. This means that frictional resistance figures are constant and airflow figures can be accurately predicted at the design stage.
Packaging
Each 3-metre length of duct is individually packed and labelled in its compressed state. This packing configuration ensures that the chance of damage in transit or on-site is reduced to the absolute minimum.

Fire Resistance
GALALI – Tecflex 500 has been tested to BS476 parts 6, 7 and 20 and meets the requirements of CP413 section A2.2.3. (Ducts for Building Services) and is suitable for use throughout the U.K. When tested to BS476 part 7 a class 1 spread of flame was recorded. When tested under the conditions laid down in BS476 part 20 GALALI – Tecflex 500 maintained its integrity for in excess of 15 minutes. Since GALALI – Tecflex 500 is of all-metal construction, smoke generation is negligible.
Installation
Cut GALALI – Tecflex 500 in its compressed state to the required length (ducting extends to approximately 4 times its compressed length) using a sharp knife. We recommend that joints be sealed on medium and high-pressure applications using Tecseal, Tectape heat shrink tape or the XT Sealing System. To fix GALALI – Tecflex 500 use Tecfix banding or clips.

Hose clips must be used when connecting flexible duct to spigots or connections of any type.Semi-Rigis duct is suitable for cooker hood extractors, just keep the ducting as tort as possible (without splitting it) to maintain the best airflow. Least amount of bends as possible too.You can support it using banding, or split rings/suspension rings, depending on install type.Kind regards, Marc

We do a stainless steel flue pipe which is smooth you can see this item on our website by entering QS11296 this pipe comes in different size diameters and lengths. Can you tell me the external diameter of your semi-rigid aluminium ducting, please? Would this be a better choice than plastic, or can you suggest any other products in this situation? Thanks very much.answer nowA Hello ColinIf the hole has been cut using a standard 127mm core drill you are probably better off using a short section of 125mm rigid pipe in plastic, we do this in 350mm lengths for standard cavity walls, if your wall is thicker then you would need 1m length and cut to size, the search codes for both of these products are QS219 and QS221

The 100mm is the range to which it belongs ie compatible with other system 100 duct ranges.

The duct will rise vertically for about 60cm and then bend 90degrees to pass through side wall of the house some 3m away. Do I need to insulate the duct? and will I need a condensation trap just above the point at which the duct enters the loft?

Do I need to insulate the duct? and will I need a condensation trap just above the point at which the duct enters the loft?answer nowA Hello CarmelIn this situation we would definitely recommend insulation as there is a high probability of condensation forming in the duct.If insulated you may get away with not having to install a condensation trap, particularly if after the 90 degree bend you can run the horizontal section to slight falls causing any condensation to drain away. A Hello RichardI assume you mean 0.5m when extended, in which case this product (new) would not be available in that length. What you are looking for is an off cut from an installer. What is the outside diameter and minimum bend radius please?

A Hello Phil, The datasheets state internal diameters as the size but getting info regarding material thickness is more difficult and is probably measured in microns not mm. Bend radius is 1/2 D across all products up to 500mm, please see attached link for further info.Please click here to download the datasheet for this product.

I have a distance of about 1.5 metres from cooker hood to outside vent. This includes one 90 degree bend vertically above the hood to then run horizontally to the outlet.
Is the lowest air flow resistance obtained by fully stretching the ducting and trimming off at the outlet or by just stretching enough to fit into the 1.5m run?

The lowest air flow resistance would be by stretching the semi rigid enough to fit the 1.5m run or another option would be to use the rigid ducting and a bend. Excellent, took all the hard work out of proceeding from the main steel 150mm dust vent through the 150mm t piece, and achieving a weirded angle, to pick up the 150 to 100mm tapered vertical converter. It simply makes things easier, and though not exactly cheap, the time saving is worth every penny.
